The music video that my group and me have created is called, “ Use somebody” by King Of Leon. Our brief was to create a music video to attract our target audience. My role in the production process was to make sure the camera and lighting was working properly so our music video can be a success. In our media studies lesson we learnt multiple media platforms, which gave us, advise on how to attract our target audience in multiple ways.

The genre for our music video is Pop. The lyrics suit the conventions used in the music video.  The audience of pop is aimed at male and female. Other pop music videos influenced us to use different lighting and different camera angles.  We had to plan our music video

Our music video is ‘Use somebody by King of Leon’. Our brief was to create a music to attract our target audience. My roles were helping with the lighting and camera work. Also I helped to place the props. At school we learnt different types of media platforms, which get more exposure for the video and about different camera angles. Also we learnt about what teenagers and adults like to see in music videos and we learnt that some music video genres stand out the best to the target audience.

The genre of our music video is pop. The target audience that we want to attract likes watching pop music videos. Our conventions are that the lyrics of the song suit the video. We also used bright lights and props. The audience of pop is both male and female. Other pop music videos influenced us to use different lighting and different camera angles. We planned the music video in are media lesion on A3 paper. I helped by inputting my ideas and writing up some of the ideas. Our production went well we got all of out footage that we planned to get. Some of the footage we had to redo because it was too dark to see the main person. When we were editing we had a plan of what to put in.

We will put up on YouTube and on social media sites such as Facebook. They need to search on YouTube. Our video was right for the target audience. I think the group done well because we got all our footage and its been edited. We also have a detailed plan to show what we did as we went on and everyone in the group contributed to the planning, filming and editing. Every member in the group did their roles correctly. My favourite scene is when we were in Regents Park and we took a shot of trees while the sun was setting because it stranded out the most from the rest. We didn’t need to break any conventions of the genre. Our main artist was a teenager because that is our target audience. Our target audience is teenagers and our music video was successful of attracting them because are group is teenagers and we know what teenagers like. The main focus will be the planning because we delayed the planning for too long.

Focus group questions and session - Drin

First I'll explain what plans we've sort of discussed already, and then ask these questions for their opinion on it and how to change it if necessary :

  • What do you think of the initial idea?
  • Do you think the direction we've chosen regarding costumes is correct?
  • What do you think of the lighting?
  • Any other sort of input you may have?

Here is what we got from the group:

Chance the Rapper - Juice video analysis

The video for Juice is mainly a performance based video, with the occasional dances and random drunken antics. The filming style is less professional and has more of the "I've taken a camcorder out with my friend" kind of feel but the hand held shots are smooth and not too jagged as Chance mucks about between performing the lyrics, pretending hes had a lot of his "juice" and is dancing about and just generally being fun and silly. There are 3 simple camera shots used throughout, mainly middle range and close range shots with the occasional long shots thrown in, and the camera does no more than pan a little and track Chance during his movement. The lighting is very low and it's filmed at night in the city, but has all the city street signs and lights of Time's square I believe it is in the background. There are blurs of things in the shot in the background to create a similar effect to that of a nightclub, where it is dark but there are constantly changing lights everywhere around you, this will appeal to the target audience as this is what they tend to do and love. Young men and women who go out at night in the city get drunk and party. His clothing is very basic with nothing out of the ordinary, just modern clothing that most people who live this party lifestyle would wear, or any other young person of that age on a normal day. This allows the audience to relate more to the singer and feel closer to him as they see that they're not so different, they dress the same and go out and get drunk the same.
